Center updates
The Center for Molecular Design and Development (CMDD) at UA Little Rock is actively working on research projects targeting neurodegenerative diseases, breast cancer, fungicides, pesticides, herbicides, and sustainable energy — using NASA-developed AI software.
This winter, we are excited to share updates on our latest research presentations, new collaborations, and growing team. Our mission remains focused on developing predictive molecular modeling tools to address diseases that most research institutions overlook, as well as expanding educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
We are grateful for the continued support of our friends and community, which makes all of this work possible.
SERMACS/SWRM ACS 2025 – Orlando, FL
Micah Shaver presented “Modeling of the Potential Anti-migraine Activity of Bioactive Molecules Using Molecular Orbital Computations and Artificial Neural Networks” at the ACS regional meeting in Orlando, FL.

Fatima Abbas from Dr. Siraj’s group presented her research “Stretchable and Conductive Thin Films of PEDOT:PSS/Ionic Liquid Composite” at the ACS regional meeting in Orlando, FL.
New contacts & collaborations
Claudia Barbero
Claudia Barbero from Barcelona, Spain is an entering freshman that will start working in our lab summer 2026! She is eager to learn and gain experience in AI, molecular orbital modeling and pharmacology.
Zahra Karimpour
Zahra Karimpour is a PhD candidate at Clemson University working in Dr. Anker’s group. Their work focuses on developing quantitative, bead-based immunoassays for highly sensitive detection of protein biomarkers and pathogens. We are considering a joint collaboration.
