Dr. James G. Cosgrove

Dr. James G. Cosgrove has served in a variety of leadership roles involving strategy development, execution, and board governance. His experience spans large corporate responsibilities, international assignments, and entrepreneurial startups.

He is currently a General Partner of BCF Group, LLC. He was a founding partner of the BCF Group, an oil and gas exploration and development company. The group raised a fund in 2006 and drilled multiple wells. An extension of the fund was raised in 2009, and several individual operating agreements have been funded in recent years. He also remains active with several startup companies.

Before joining BCF Group, Dr. Cosgrove served as CEO in Residence at Baker Capital in 1998. Baker Capital is a private equity management firm focused on telecommunications, software, and network-based applications. In that role, he helped identify investment opportunities, conduct due diligence, serve on boards, and develop corporate strategies for portfolio companies. He also served as Chairman of the Board for S2 Systems and later became its CEO.

From 1996 to 1998, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of AT&T-Unisource Communications Services, a Pan-European data company headquartered in the Netherlands. He also held leadership positions at AT&T in business multimedia services, data communications, and international sales and marketing across Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Earlier in his career, he held various technical and management roles at Bell Labs and AT&T Communications Services.

In addition to his executive roles, Dr. Cosgrove has served on the boards of several companies and nonprofit organizations. His board service has included leadership roles with portfolio companies, civic organizations, and international telecommunications companies.

Dr. Cosgrove holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Texas, where he also completed two years of postdoctoral research. He is a former Alfred P. Sloan Fellow and earned a Master of Science in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of New Orleans.
